TR6+6 PROJECT
The project began as a series of tech sessions revolving around the
dismantling of a TR6 for parts. The thought here was to allow interested LITA
members to take apart a TR6 in order to learn how it is put together. Tony
Vigliotti, who didn't believe that the car was restorable when he bought it from
club member, John Baumann, last year, made the car available. The tech sessions
would be held at his shop on Saturdays. Initially, Tony wanted to remove the transmission and overdrive unit to use
in his fully restored TR250. The balance of the car would be stored as spare
parts to guarantee that the TR250 would have a steady supply of parts for
several years. The dismantling began on January 21, 2001 and as it progressed
that day, Tony began to see that the car wasn't as bad as he previously thought.
It was restorable and Tony began to have an idea. He always felt the TR6 was too
narrow and thought widening it 6 inches would improve its looks and make it more
comfortable to ride in. Tony was thinking about undertaking this project himself once the car was
dismantled, but, went one step further to suggest that his project become a Long
Island Triumph Association club project. Something that the club could call its
own, utilize as a learning resource via ongoing tech sessions and enjoy the
knowledge and camaraderie that a project of this type can bring. His proposal
was greeted with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm when it was presented at the
monthly LITA meeting. All LITA members are welcome to join in the fun and
excitement.
