Okay, okay, I admit cars are part of the "MAN'S WORLD." But there
are exceptions to every rule… aren't there? Can't at least one estrogen-toting
being on this planet enjoy cars, too? Just a little? I am working my butt off
to try to fit in, but it has been a challenge. Maybe I don't fit in a T-shirt
the same way all you men do, but underneath the T-shirt, deep down inside, behind
the layers of skin, aren't we are all the same? Don't we all have a heart? And
don't our hearts share the same passion? The Triumph? Hmmm… Think about it.

One warm summer day, way, way back, I was hanging out at Long Island Triumph Association
(LITA) member John Baumann's house when he pulled out of his garage his newly
acquired car, a bright red TR6. I had no idea what kind of car it was, but that
didn't matter. When I looked at it, waves crashed on the ocean, fireworks exploded
and violins played in my head. It was love at first sight! I had to have one.
I met LITA member Paul Rodecko in Spring 1998 and he told me he had a TR6 he started
restoring but didn't seem to have the time to finish it. He made me a deal I couldn't
refuse and, under the condition that the "car stay in the club," it
could be mine. I promised to take care of his 1972 emerald green TR6 and restore
it to the best of my abilities - and off I was with my first step into the world
of British sports cars. And it has been a roller coaster of a ride ever since.

Thank you, John Baumann, for introducing me to the world of Triumphs and LITA.
Without you, I would probably still be driving an'89 Trans Am.
Thank you, Paul, for giving me the pleasure of restoring such a beautiful car.
Mike Pellicano, what can I say? I asked you to build me an engine that purrs like
a kitten. You built me a car that roars like a lion. But not only that, you opened
your shop to me, gave me a key and made me feel like I was at home. You put up
with my dramatics. You listened to my complaining, my girlie moods and my nagging;
gave me a hug when needed and kept the Kleenex around to wipe my tears. "Thank
you" will never be enough.

As for LITA and the effect we Triumph lovers have on the rest of the world, I
encourage you to join the club. But don't join just to include yourself in the
fun (and there is a lot of fun, I can assure you of that), but join to help preserve
the marque for future generations. Choosing "automobiles" as a hobby
is a fortunate choice. It is one of the few hobbies that we can show the whole
world without even trying just by driving our cars around. These cars need to
be out on the roads - in parades, tours and rallies for those who are younger
than us to gain the respect that we have for these little beauties. Someday, when
I am 90, cruising down the road in my TR6 and I see a young person trying to keep
up with me in a TR, I'll just say, "Glad to have you in the club! Catch me
if you can!"
